The General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGPA) of Algeria issued an announcement on the 11th. In accordance with the provisions of Algeria’s 2026 Finance Act, second-hand fishing vessels for deep-sea fishing with an age of less than 15 years are permitted for import.
The DGPA stated that the Algerian government encourages the development of deep-sea fishing, expansion of high-sea fishing and exploration of new fishing grounds. This new measure will bring strategic added value to Algeria’s fisheries sector. Algeria will strengthen its state-owned fleet by introducing fishing vessels with high technology, excellent seaworthiness, capable of long-distance navigation and prolonged operations, to cope with severe weather conditions encountered during deep-sea fishing.
Importing second-hand fishing vessels can cut investment costs for enterprises, attract professionals to engage in this strategic economic activity and accelerate the modernization of the state-owned fleet. The Algerian government aims to raise fish output and consolidate the country’s position in deep-sea fishing. Deep-sea fishing is among Algeria’s most promising high-value-added industries.
